LUMBAR LOVE...

Lately, I have been seeing long, overstuffed lumbar pillows on everything from sofas to beds and I am in love!  For many years, the closest thing I had to a lumber pillow on my bed was my body pillow- a must have during all of my pregnancies.  Now that I am done having babies, I think it is time to sass up my horizontal pillow selection and get me some lumbar pillows!

Here are a few of my lumbar loves...
Of course, I am loving the Kelly green velvet on that pillow! Oversized color = oversized pop!!
Did someone say-SUPER SIZED.... Makes you want to cuddle up with that ginormous pillow and watch some good TV!  This is my favorite size lumbar pillow because it makes such a huge impact in the room and I also think it may remind me of my coveted body pillow!
Have fun and mix your lumbar pillow up with a variety of other pillow sizes and dimensions on your sofa.
Pure Bliss... a must have in my room! Take a gander at that duvet- WOWZER!! What a fun way to combine different size lumbar pillows.
Did I mention they were fun to decorate with?
I think this lumbar pillow gives the room that perfect touch of glam!  I love the length of this lumbar-perfect for back support when you are up reading at night...

Do you love me some lumbar pillows, or what?

A LITTLE BIT OF THIS...OR A LITTLE BIT OF THAT?

After writing my recent post about jazzing up your bookshelves, I decided it was time to add a little funk to my own study! I have been thinking about changing the paint color in that room for a few years now, so writing that post put my decorating brain into full motion!  I thought I had the room all planned out, but now I seem to be hemming and hawing over my decision!  Both of my ideas use the same colors in the room- KELLY GREEN + BLACK so that makes it a whole lot easier but where I should put those colors is the now the real question!

Do you think I should go with this one???
This was my original idea for the room:

*All of the walls and trim will be painted WHITE
*The back of my built-in bookshelves will be painted BLACK
*Curtains in the room will be KELLY GREEN linen drapes
* The inside line of the drapes will be edged with BLACK + WHITE  Greek key trim ( I ordered 24 yards on sale last month, so I better use it somewhere, right??)

...or this one???
All it took was one look at those KELLY GREEN walls and I was officially Mrs. Wishy-Washy pants....what do you think? Should I change it up a little??
*The walls will be painted KELLY GREEN
*The curtains will be BLACK + WHITE horizontal striped drapes
*I will still paint the back of the built-in bookshelves BLACK

What do you think? I still have to decide on a rug, art and a funky chandelier but I cannot even go there yet- brain overload!  If I could only just stop over thinking my decorating decisions and just go with my original plan-that would be way too simple though....

DAHLING!

I'm off to Palms Springs for a girls weekend! I am SO excited!  Happy 40th sis! I'm not old enough for my big sis to be 40, am I? Just wanted it to be noted, I am younger;)

Anyhow, this got me thinking of the fabulous Martyn Lawrence Bullard, dahling! Remember the amazing work he did at the Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs? Please tell me my favorite show is coming back! Please, BRAVO!! Let's peruse some of Martyn's amazing spaces, shall we?!
It's hard not to think of Martin Lawrence Bullard when you see a suzani! He uses them in magnificent ways, but I especially love it here as a headboard!
He is always pushing the limits and it works! Look at that subtle yet luxurious chevron coverlet.
And then he turns around and does soft and pretty! Glammed up of course with the mirrored canopy bed!
Suzani's in a little girl's room, who would have thought it would look so sweet?!
Of course, we can't have just any old barn door! Just look at the added detail. Did you notice the rustic beams and crystal chandeliers?!  Oh , and are those moroccan sconces hanging in the background?
Let's not forget Mr. Bullard's fabric line! Beautiful! You can see more here and here.
I love that every room has something a little unexpected. The beautiful wallpaper, classic chairs and then a chandelier like I've never seen before!
These rooms definitely feel like a more subdued Martyn. I love the built-in sectional with the scalloped trim.
This room is so rustic and cozy but...
I'm ready to enjoy the sunshine! Why not bring the sofas outside?!

COLOR MY WORLD CHALLENGE- WEEK 3 FABRIC!

So, it's week three of the 'Color My World Challenge' and this week we're supposed to add a HOT PINK fabric to our homes. Look at what we both came up with-
Oh, HOT PINK, why do you torment me?!  I want to love you, I really do but you make it so hard!
Then Anthropologie saved the day with this over-sized dishtowel in the sale bin...what was it I saw?
HOT PINK & only $9.95! Now, the question is how do I use this dishtowel...as a dishtowel, how boring!
So, what's your vote?  Leave it as a dishtowel, make a new pillow or frame it?
Also, I have to include that the sweater pillow is an old out-dated poncho!! So, don't throw out that old sweater just yet...
This week the color challenge allowed me to satisfy one of my biggest obsessions in design- FABRIC!  One can never have enough fabric, right ladies?  Okay, I will admit that there have been times when I have been slightly alarmed at the growing size of my fabric piles, but that is normal, right?...herein lies the issue!

I bought what I thought was going to be a killer HOT PINK suzani a few weeks ago on eBay for my fabric choice. It arrived Friday, and unfortunately, it does not work in the room I bought it for because there is just too much black in the pattern. I am bummed but I know I'll be able to use it somewhere, someday!  So for now, just add it to the stash.
Clock is ticking and I need a Plan B...perfect time to sort through my fabric pile!
Score.... I quickly find the rockin' 70's patchwork dress that I bought on one of our many fabric jaunts!  I know Jamie thought I was slightly off my rocker when I found this fantastic dress, maybe wondering about my fashionista?  I never intended to wear this dress, no way... it was way to perfect for pillows.  Some may see a dress, I see pillows.  Just a little slice of crazy!
Here she is in all her patchwork glory.... I wanted it to be a longer lumbar pillow, but I've been having a slight love-hate relationship with invisible zippers lately and destroyed the other half of the dress...
Right now, she's all by herself on the bed until I buy shams etc.  Once, the bedding is complete, I know she will be that perfect 'aha' piece!

Does anyone else share my fabric love?  If so, maybe we could start a fabric swap to make ourselves feel better! ;)

These fabulous ladies continue to impress us! Check out what they did this week!

GRASSCLOTH WALLPAPER

2006 is when I fell in love with grasscloth wallpaper. Seems odd that I know that, right?! Remember the fabulous, troubled and dynamic Walker family of Brothers and Sisters? More importantly, remember Nora's home? Grasscloth in the kitchen, grasscloth in the foyer and more grasscloth in the dining room. I was smitten with the look...
Apartment Therapy shared the resources of this amazing kitchen here! I want to go order that amazing subway tile right NOW! Oh, and the grasscloth paper!
Our dining room has moulding and wainscoting very similar to this. The gray would be stunning! I love that the ceiling is also painted!
I'm really loving the gray...
Dining Room traditional dining room
but then again, how pretty is this aqua?!
Blue is slightly masculine and certainly makes a statement. Navy and white is classic!
Classic Coastal Colonial Foyer traditional staircase
but the gray is so very pretty...

p.s. If you know where I can find it for a bargain, please share!
I know Vashti has found some on ebay and even Lowe's carries it, but I'm sure there are more options out there that I am unaware of!

WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR KIDS THIS CREATIVE LICENSE?

I was surfing the web the other day for fabric paint and I stumbled upon these beauties and instantly fell in love!
There must be some way cool parents living in this house, right?
After reading the article about this incredible display of creative expression, I learned that all of the kudos have to go to Pamela Bell, who was one of the founding partners of the Kate Spade brand. This is her townhouse in the East Village of NYC. She wanted a kid friendly space for her children to grow up in, without having to sacrifice style.  I think she achieved that here!

She allowed her daughter and a group of friends decorate the sofa with fabric markers for an art project in school and let her son paint the chair with fabric paints. Creative expression in its purest form!  Everything about this risk free-creative zone makes me smile!  My parents had to continually wallpaper my walls with rolls of paper when I was younger because my mom said my hands would be shaking if I was not coloring something.  If they only knew all they had to do was cover my furniture in a simple cotton canvas and let me at it with a few fabric markers...

What do you think? Would you let your little Picasso decorate any furniture in your house-with permission of course?

CAN YOU SPOT THE MOROCCAN POUF?

Moroccan poufs... whether they are hidden under a desk, placed sporadically in a room or at the end of the bed,.
I love them! They look super cute in your little one's room and I have even seen them brought outdoors.
Do you love 'em or hate 'em?
Be ready for lots of fabulous spaces! There were too many to choose from and I just had to include them all!
Look at this ginormous pouf! Um, pure awesomeness!

Well, what do you think? Are you sold?! I am.  They seem to work in any room, no matter the style!
  I don't think I can go wrong!
